Money Matters
Money does matter and you need to think about how you're going
to get it before you make big spending plans.
Often the money you're entitled to depends on your individual
situation, which might be different to your friends. If you need
help sorting out the information, visit your nearest Connexions
Centre.
Education Maintenance
Allowance
You could be entitled to claim an Education Maintenance
Allowance (EMA).
This is money paid to you (between £5 and £30) each week you
attend school or college if you qualify.
You need to get an application pack from your local Student
Support section:
Travel and other costs
You might be able to claim for help with travel costs and your
student support section can also tell you about Learner Support
Funds.
College and training fees
If you go to college or stay at school and study full-time, you
don't usually need to pay for your course - it's free. Independent
schools and colleges (ones you pay to go to) charge fees.
Government funded training ( Apprenticeships) is also free and
you'll get paid wages or a training allowance.
What if you're unemployed? Things you
should know ...
There are benefits some people aged 16 and 17 can claim but
they are hard to get.
If you want to try and claim, you need to register with your
Connexions Centre.
