What is Investor in Careers?
The Investor in Careers Award was developed by Cornwall and
Devon Careers in 1994. It is a quality standard for the management
of careers education and guidance (CEG) in schools and FE colleges,
primary schools and government funded training organisations, and
is now used in a number of areas across the country.
Assessment is based on standards required by legislation or
nationally produced guidelines on good practice, so schools and
colleges are not being asked to do anything that is not already
established as being of value to their students. The Award has been
written and revised by careers education and guidance
professionals, teachers and senior managers in schools and
colleges.
Investor in Careers involves a ‘whole organisation’ approach and
provides a ready vehicle for implementing Government legislation
and initiatives.
Students benefit from a CEG programme that is thoroughly
planned, regularly evaluated and continuously improved.
Organisations gain public recognition for excellence in the
management of CEG through achieving Investor in Careers and can
provide independent objective evidence for inspectors.
A Careers Education Development Adviser (CEDA) from CfBT Advice
and Guidance will support the school or college when working
towards the award, but assessment will be completed by an external
assessor.
