Job Hunting
If you are thinking of starting work after you complete your
studies, you should begin job hunting well before you leave school
or college. Here are some tips:
- prepare your CV – see your Personal Adviser if you need
help
- start researching potential employers in the Spring/Summer
terms of your last year
- send your CV to employers advertising vacancies
- send speculative letters to employers, as many jobs are not
advertised. Your CfBT Advice & Guidance Connexions centre can
suggest organisations to contact
- follow up any vacancies advertised on your school or college
noticeboard
- CfBT Advice & Guidance circulates vacancy details to
schools and colleges or click on Jobfinder to have a look at our
current vacancies. Apply for any that interest you.
- Look at the LOIS
website for vacancies across London
If you haven’t found work by the time you leave school or
college, your first stop should be your local CfBT Advice &
Guidance Connexions centre, where you will find:
- a wide range of job and training vacancies, updated daily
- staff with whom you can discuss your job ideas and possible
vacancies.
Where else can you look for employment?
- Internet – company sites, recruitment sites and LOIS
- local and national newspapers; trade and professional
magazines
- Jobcentre Plus offices
- private employment agencies
- television and radio
- personal contacts through family and friends
